THE LUTHIER
THIBAULT JABERG I’m a guitar maker from the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. From a very young age I have been practising various traditional crafts such as pottery, blacksmithing, knife making, green woodworking and other woodworking skills. At the age of eight I started taking classical guitar lessons. In 2015 this then led me to start building my first guitar. During the construction of that first instrument I received help and advice from luthier Philippe Jean-Mairet. I quickly realized that this was going to be something much more than all the other crafts I had practised before. Since the making of this first guitar I have completed the construction of several more concert classical guitars before in 2019 starting to take an interest in the making of fine violins. One year later I had finalized the building of two very nice violins under the tuition of Dieter Hillewaere in Switzerland. This experience gave me the motivation to apply for one of the three training positions offered each year at the Swiss School of Violin Making in Brienz. After serving my mandatory 15 months of civil service I commenced my four-year long training course in Brienz in the summer of 2022. I will now greatly benefit of the next four years here in Brienz where I am simultaniously honing my existing skills and taking up so much new knowledge under the guidance of master luthiers Simon Glaus and Olivier Krieger. |
