My workshop is situated in the countryside outside of Bern in Switzerland. On a fine winters day I have a splendid view over the Bernese Alps from my workshop window. I definitely believe that the workspace contributes to the quality of a maker’s work.
My workshop is only 14 square metres which is very small but since I use almost only hand tools and no machines to build my guitars this space works very well for me. I prefer the slow and tranquil pace of working with hand tools as opposed to the noisy and dusty machines. Using hand tools invites me to use more traditional methods since most of the more modern methods require fancy power tools and equipment to execute properly, this gives me a special connection to the master makers of the past. |
